Baker & Mckenzie: They recruit 38 trainees each year, in March and September. During your two-year training contract, you spend time in four key practice areas each lasting six months. In each seat you have a supervisor who acts as your work provider and mentor. The seat rotation policy ensures you experience at least three distinct areas of law, including contentious law. Corporate work is at the heart of the Firm and all trainees are required to undertake a seat in the Corporate department. Baker & McKenzie have 12 key practice areas as follows; Banking, Corporate, Dispute Resolution, EU, Competition & Trade, Employment, IP, IT & Commercial, Pensions, Real Estate, Structured Capital Markets, Tax and Wealth Management. All trainees have the opportunity to apply for a three month secondments to one of the global offices. Popular locations include Singapore, Moscow and Hong Kong. Depending on client needs, they also offer trainee secondments to clients’ in-house legal teams. Baker & McKenzie also offer a seven-month fast track LPC prior to your training contract. It had been developed in partnership with the College of Law. They offer two intakes: July and January.
