Who is the National Audit Office?
They are independent of government and the Civil Service and hold the government to account for the way it uses public money. Their advice and recommendations for how to make things better are taken seriously.
They are right at the centre of the drive to promote economy and efficiency in government focussing on the big systemic, cross-government, and crosscutting issues in order to bring about significant change.
Financial Audit work involves auditing over 450 accounts across government departments and a wide range of other public sector bodies, representing hundreds of billions of pounds.
They publish around 60 Value for Money reports a year for Parliament on the economy, efficiency and effectiveness. Their work also includes providing specialist input to Parliamentary Select Committees, and they have a number of international clients such as the United Nations and provide support to audit institutions in developing countries.
Become a Chartered Accountant
The National Audit Office offers a graduate scheme to graduates from any discipline to study to be a Chartered Accountant. Once fully qualified, graduates may be offered a permanent position as an Audit Principal. As a trainee you will play a key role in delivering financial audit work, and will also have opportunities to work on high profile value for money studies.
